Dealing With Deployment for the First Time
If your husband or wife is being deployed for the first time it may be a really traumatizing event. We’ve been through this before and have a few helpful hints for families dealing with deployment for the first time
Talk to the Kids: The first thing you’ll want to do is talk to the kids. Change your tone depending on their age and even enlist the help of a children’s book if necessary. Try not to alarm them but realize that the more time they have to prepare for a parent’s absence, the better.
Get Ready: You’re going to have to learn how to manage a household on your own for up to a yearthis can be challenging. Talk to family members about helping you and look into ADT security if you think you’ll feel less safe at home. The more prepared, the better.
Talk to Your Employer: Many times employers are particularly lenient with vacation time knowing an employee’s spouse is being deployed. Find out what kind of leave time you’ll receive both before and after your spouse is shipped out.
